Jaguar Land Rover has joined the game of autonomous cars. In fact, they’ve achieved a world-first advancement in the mysterious and new realm of autonomy. Investments in research, development, and product creation have led to advancements in the technological side of the Automotive Industry. No, it’s not “magic,” it’s engineering at it’s finest.

Autonomous Sensing Technologies

Here’s where the genius of engineering minds comes into play. Surface Identification and 3D path sensing are equipped to “sense and predict” the vehicle’s path. The technology combines camera, ultrasonic, radar, and LIDAR sensors to give a 360 degree view of the surroundings. The Overhead Clearance Assist registers dimensions through stereo camera technology.

So, how’s it all work?

All the technology of the sensors and cameras combine to a (sort-of) brain. Terrain Response settings change with the registered conditions. The Terrain-Based Speed Adaptation (TBSA) helps the vehicle modify and adapt to the current road and surface demands.

Now comes the “futuristic” and exciting part. JLR brought all of the this impressive technology together and…it worked! Not only that, they took it a step further. The autonomous cars were equipped with a Dedicated Short Range Communications system. By connecting vehicle to vehicle, the cars were able to share information with each other. From road conditions to obstacles, the technology connected and successfully paired with the other vehicle; making an “off-road connected convoy” for the first time in the world.

So there you have it: another advancement in the arena of autonomous cars. Jaguar Land Rover has joined the pack of front-runners. With a revolutionary design advancement and large investment in the engineering sector, JLR has impressed beyond expectations.
